Visitor Information

We are pleased to welcome you to The Academy. To maximize your enjoyment of our club, please review the following information before your visit. You may also visit our FAQ page for additional information.

Hours of Operation

Current club hours may be found here.

Directions

We are located at 2166 Market Street, near the intersection of Sanchez & 15th Streets. Look for the black awning that says “The Academy.” Ring the doorbell upon arrival if the door is locked, and you will be greeted by a staff member who can check you in.

Parking

Street parking is generally available on Market Street or adjacent areas (particularly north side in Duboce Triangle), within 1-2 blocks of our club. Be careful of signs and restrictions. If you plan to consume alcohol at our venue, we strongly recommend public transportation, car service, or a designated driver. Please note: there is no public parking lot or garage in the Castro neighborhood.

Public Transit

We are located 1/2 a block away from the MUNI Church station, which serves the K, L, & M lines. The N line also stops at Duboce, which is a 5 minute walk from The Academy. The F line streetcar also stops at Sanchez, a 1-2 minute walk to our front door.

If you are taking BART, we recommend exiting at Civic Center station, and taking the MUNI underground westbound / outbound (K, L, M, or N) to Church Street.

Arrival & Check-In

Please plan to arrive at the same time as the member who is hosting you. If you arrive early, you may wait in the reception area. Upon arrival, check-in with the concierge outside who can assist you (evening after 5pm), or if there is no concierge outside, simply ring the doorbell and a host will greet you and check you in. Non-members may be asked to fill out a digital check-in form on an iPad.

General Expectations
  1. Be kind, courteous, and show respect for other members, guests, staff, and vendors at all times.

  2. Always abide by staff and/or management requests.

  3. Treat the premises with the utmost care, as though it were your own home—or better.

  4. Should you at any time have questions or concerns related to your experience at The Academy, please be encouraged to contact staff or management.

Departure

All guests must leave the Club premises when the member they are visiting leaves; exceptions may only be granted by Club Management.

Food & Beverage

The Academy has a full bar offering signature and classic cocktails, wine, beer, and non-alcoholic options. We also offer small food options to enjoy with your drinks. Our menus can be found here. Outside food and "BYOB" is not allowed.

Guests of club members may open a tab at check-in, or pay individually for food & beverage purchases, unless being treated by a member. If ordering on a member's tab, they must be present to approve the purchase.

Cash vs. Credit

The Academy prefers credit cards over cash for all transactions. If you must pay with cash, there may be a delay in service or the transaction may need to be completed at a different station.

Dress

There is no formal dress code at The Academy, however, our basic rule is to always present one's self in a way that is reflective of individual style while being respectful of others and maintaining an atmosphere of inclusivity.

Cell Phones & Social Media

Cell phone use is allowed, but please use common courtesy. Should you need privacy, please see staff for assistance. Posting to social media is acceptable so long as only your group is in the frame. Feel free to tag / mention us.

WiFi

The Academy offers free wifi access to all members and their guests:
